Michele Barchi (Harpsichordist)

Michele Barchi undertook his musical studies at the "G.Verdi" Conservatory of Milan graduating in Piano in the class of Maria Isabella DeCarli. Subsequently he achieved the Harpsichord diploma. He has developed a deep insight into the construction of keyboard instruments, recreating copies of harpsichords, spinets, virginals and organs. He collaborated for some years with "the Giardino Armonico" ensemble as continuo-player and soloist in the more important Festivals in Italy and abroad. He has made Radio and Television recordings for RAI, France Radio, Radio Switzerland, Deutchesland Rundfunk, ORF Austria and for American releases. As soloist he has recorded for "TELDEC" several compact discs of music for Harpsichord (Concerts, Suites, Preludes and Fugues) of J.S.Bach in the integral edition " Bach 2000". For the concert season of the Festival of Lucerne, he was invited to be soloist and continuist for a performance of the 6 Brandenburg Concertos of Bach under the direction of the M° Claudio Abbado. Together with the violinist Elisa Citterio, he founded the ensemble of baroque music ‘Brixia Musicalis’, in which he plays as continuist and soloist. As a Harpsichord player he is an active recitalist both as soloist and in ensembles. Moreover he has researched and made transcriptions of hand-written music by unknown Brescian composers of the 18 century. He places side by side his passion for music with another passion- for the painting of decorative plastic (putties), painting pictures, ceilings and walls, and executing lacquerwork and gilding on furniture and keyboard instruments.
